Meet Dr. Nicole Shusterman

Dr. Cara Hartoon is a pelvic floor physical therapist with focus on both male and female pelvic pain and sexual dysfunction. Cara emphasizes empowering patients to take an active part in their rehabilitation and always uses a “laid back” and non-judgemental approach to patient care. In practice, she uses various techniques including manual therapy, integrative dry needling, pelvic neurologic reeducation (including manual and technological biofeedback), autonomic retraining, behavior modification, and mind-body focused therapeutic exercise.

Cara has a BS in Clinical Exercise Science from University of Texas at Arlington in 2006, and obtained her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. She is a licensed physical therapist, ACSM certified exercise physiologist, registered yoga teacher, and group exercise instructor. Her continuing education includes work through the Barral Institute, Herman and Wallace, American Physical Therapy Association, the Integrative Dry Needling Institute, and Yoga Alliance affiliates, among others.

She treats male pelvic and sexual conditions, including orchialgia (testicular pain), pain with erection or ejaculation, chronic male pelvic pain, including chronic prostatitis, post-prostatectomy urinary incontinence, and pelvic floor-related erectile dysfunction. Among the female conditions she treats are vaginismus, dyspareunia (pain with intercourse), vulvodynia/vulvar vestibulitis, post-traumatic desensitization (with concurrent mental health intervention), pelvic organ prolapse, and several post-natal pelvic dysfunctions. Sex-independent conditions that she treats include post-coital pelvic pain, persistent genital arousal disorder (PGAD), pain with arousal, and various other urinary and colorectal conditions.
